Emily Assistant Manager
audit
“Our department is very lucky to have a great support structure from both the managers and the partners.”
I had heard of PKF Francis Clark as one of the larger firms in the local area. Their reputation was very positive when I spoke to friends and family about my interest in the firm.
I am an Assistant Manager in the Corporate department of the Torquay office. My day-to-day role involves travelling to clients (both locally and further afield) and spending a week working out of their offices whilst the audit work is being done. I am also on the Social Committee in the Torquay office, which is a voluntary position that I have just begun.
The people. I think in the Corporate department it is very important that you get along with your colleagues, particularly as we often work in small teams out on-site.
Undoubtedly there is an expectation to get the job done. However, it is clear that everyone here appreciates the value of a work/life balance.
I graduated from Edinburgh University in 2013 with a degree in Geology and Physical Geography and was enrolled on the PKF Francis Clark graduate scheme from September 2013. I qualified as a Chartered Accountant in August 2016. Since then I have continued to gain audit experience across many sectors (charities, academies, listed companies, family businesses and solicitors). I’ve hosted some of the training courses for recent graduates and am an office champion for some of the software we use.
Qualifying as a Chartered Accountant.
Our department is very lucky to have a great support structure from both the managers and the partners.
Being approachable and friendly.
Be yourself. You don’t need to have relevant prior experience or qualifications to be good at this job. Skills can be taught, but no-one can teach you how to be you.
Enjoyable, Encouraging, Stimulating.
Monica Galetti, Michelle Obama, Shania Twain.
Hawaii! Which I am actually lucky enough to be going to later in the year for my honeymoon!
Jon Sopel – If Only They Didn’t Speak English.
I love anything by Clean Bandit, their sound is just so different and super catchy!
There’s no such thing as a silly question. If you don’t ask, you won’t learn.
My thermo-spatula! It’s allowed me to be much more creative with my cooking and baking.
To trust my instincts.
I love cooking, baking, making jam, pickling veg, trying out new ingredients – anything in the kitchen really! I love hosting dinner parties and BBQs too.
To speak a foreign language. I think that this would be a really useful skill, both in work and out.
