“Since joining PKF Francis Clark I have been overwhelmed with the support provided by all colleagues.”

  • What attracted you to PKF Francis Clark?

The healthy work/life balance and socialising whilst at work that PKF Francis Clark support and encourage.

I had met some PKF Francis Clark employees at a networking event about a year before I joined and they talked so positively about their place of work regarding pressure levels, socialising, kind and helpful managers, and study opportunities.

I was particularly interested to hear that my local office (Taunton) was looking to create a rural team. This was an area I had experience in from a previous accounting role and I help out at our local livestock market on a Saturday due to my interest in agriculture.

  • Tell us about your role and what you get involved in

I am an Accounts Assistant currently straddling both the Business Services team and the Rural team. This includes accounts preparation for a variety of entities, VAT returns, tax returns and producing all documents required by companies.

Linked to my role here at PKF Francis Clark, I am an enthusiastic member of the TYBC (Taunton Young Business Club) committee which PKF Francis Clark are supportive and encouraging of. The firm  have agreed to sponsor our next event which is very exciting and should attract an array of young professionals early in their careers. It will be a great opportunity for networking.

  • What do you like most about working here?

Since joining PKF Francis Clark I have been overwhelmed with the support provided by all colleagues including the managers and partners. There have already been many opportunities to learn on the job and my colleagues are willing to spend their time assisting me with any new tasks and aiding my learning.

  • Tell us about the culture

There is an emphasis on work/life balance which had initially attracted me to join. There is a fantastic social scene in our office with regular meals out, charity raising activities, a photography competition, sweepstakes and more. There is always something going on!

  • Tell us about your career path since joining the firm and your ambitions for the future

I am pleased to be a part of the new rural team in the Taunton office expanding on PKF Francis Clark’s existing rural sector across other offices. I am looking forward to helping this team establish itself in the Taunton area. This is an area I have previous experience of and very much enjoy working in.

I have recently been accepted to Reed Business School on an apprenticeship to study ACCA which I am very excited about. PKF Francis Clark have facilitated this and they are able to offer support throughout my study.

  • What’s been your biggest achievement?

Completing AAT Level 4 to a Merit standard which means AAT is a happy memory of the past and I will soon be able to move forward and study ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) which PKF Francis Clark have agreed to support me through.

  • How are you supported in your role?

Regular catch ups with my manager. The managers are approachable so I can discuss and ask anything. My experienced and friendly colleagues are also happy to help me and aid my learning.

  • What makes someone successful here?

From what I have seen many of the managers have the following qualities; long-term commitment, the ability to work well with others, and passion to give clients a high quality service including proactive advice and help.

  • What advice would you give someone who’s considering applying?

Research the firm’s values and see if they align with your own. Attend an apprenticeship evening to meet us and find out more about career opportunities and studying.

PKF Francis Clark appreciate applicants who are enthusiastic and passionate about their role while also having interests in the social aspects of work and enjoying hobbies out of work. This is a great attribute to have and I would recommend making this clear in your application.

A bit more about me

  • What’s your favourite album and why?

‘Florence + the Machine – Lungs’. I enjoy this album for the strong voice and the powerful songs to turn up loud in the car. Furthermore, it is incredible to watch Florence perform tracks from this album live as she is so dynamic and at one with the music.

  • What's the most important thing you've learned in the last year?

I have learned that for my personal study approach I am more productive if I am outside of my home. It is important for me that when I need to study (away from the usual educational establishment) that I go to a library, café or meet a study buddy to ensure concentration. With important exams coming up, I will keep this in mind and plan ahead where and when to study to ensure ultimate productivity and limited stress.

  • How do you spend your free time?

Playing hockey (the best sport in the world!), going to the local beaches, watching stand-up comedy and theatre shows, exploring new places near and far.

  • What is a skill you'd like to learn and why?

I would like to improve my photography skills, I was recently thrilled with PKF Francis Clark’s decision to choose some of my photographs to put up on our office walls as part of a competition. Eventually, I would also like to learn to paint.
