PKF Francis Clark

Nicola Head of Paraplanning and Support

financial planning

“There is lots of opportunity to develop knowledge and skills whether through group workshops or independent study.”

  • What attracted you to PKF Francis Clark?

I knew of PKF Francis Clark’s Financial Planning from previous roles and so I knew that it had a good reputation for being professional. The vacancy in Paraplanning suited what I was looking for at the time.

  • Tell us about your role and what you get involved in

I am now Head of the Central Services teams providing technical and administrative support to a team of 15 advisers across seven offices. We help clients work towards their long term goals by making sure finances are in the best shape possible. We research markets for suitable investments, assist with the purchase and then we monitor performance, changes in legislation etc and recommend adjustments along the way. We build long term relationships with clients and their families – giving them peace of mind and time to do what they are more interested in.

  • Tell us about the culture

The people I work with are professional and we all have the same ethos which is to look after each other as well as our clients. We want people to enjoy the working environment but not at the expense of their home lives.

  • Tell us about your career path since joining the firm and your ambitions for the future

I joined as an experienced Paraplanner in 2014 and since then have worked my way up to managing a team of nine Paraplanners. I am also actively involved in reviewing and redesigning the operational framework, creating the business support hub in Exeter and putting together an entirely new team. I love the operational side of the business and want to be more involved in the decision making at a senior level.

  • What’s been your biggest achievement?

Developing a clear framework that will future proof our business has consumed a lot of my time over the last two years but I am proud we now have a sturdy foundation from which we can continue to grow and be a highly successful business.

  • How are you supported in your role?

We work as a team, share ideas and both colleagues and senior management support each other. There is lots of opportunity to develop knowledge and skills whether through group workshops or independent study.

  • What advice would you give someone who’s considering applying?

It’s not all about the top line salary package. PKF Francis Clark is about so much more. It is a caring environment. As an employer I have found them to be flexible in their approach and considerate when it comes to the work/life balance. There are so many opportunities.
