Nicola Head of Paraplanning and Support
“There is lots of opportunity to develop knowledge and skills whether through group workshops or independent study.”
I knew of PKF Francis Clark’s Financial Planning from previous roles and so I knew that it had a good reputation for being professional. The vacancy in Paraplanning suited what I was looking for at the time.
I am now Head of the Central Services teams providing technical and administrative support to a team of 15 advisers across seven offices. We help clients work towards their long term goals by making sure finances are in the best shape possible. We research markets for suitable investments, assist with the purchase and then we monitor performance, changes in legislation etc and recommend adjustments along the way. We build long term relationships with clients and their families – giving them peace of mind and time to do what they are more interested in.
Every day is different, always busy.
The people I work with are professional and we all have the same ethos which is to look after each other as well as our clients. We want people to enjoy the working environment but not at the expense of their home lives.
I joined as an experienced Paraplanner in 2014 and since then have worked my way up to managing a team of nine Paraplanners. I am also actively involved in reviewing and redesigning the operational framework, creating the business support hub in Exeter and putting together an entirely new team. I love the operational side of the business and want to be more involved in the decision making at a senior level.
Developing a clear framework that will future proof our business has consumed a lot of my time over the last two years but I am proud we now have a sturdy foundation from which we can continue to grow and be a highly successful business.
We work as a team, share ideas and both colleagues and senior management support each other. There is lots of opportunity to develop knowledge and skills whether through group workshops or independent study.
Having ambition and the courage to be innovative. Getting involved and thinking outside the box to find ways we can improve.
It’s not all about the top line salary package. PKF Francis Clark is about so much more. It is a caring environment. As an employer I have found them to be flexible in their approach and considerate when it comes to the work/life balance. There are so many opportunities.
Fast-paced, Varied, Lighthearted.
Bob Mortimer for his wit. Heather Small for her awesome singing voice and my lovely friend Denise who I see rarely now as she has moved to Cyprus.
Fortunate enough to have just visited – Maldives. Need a new dream!
Jamie Oliver – 5 Ingredients – so simple and quick.
Don’t really have one – happy to listen to most types of music.
My grandad told me there is no such word as ‘can’t’ and I have yet to prove him wrong. There is normally a solution to a problem.
Probably the bottle opener when the working day is done!
Lazing on a white sandy beach with a great book.
To make time for those you love as life passes by so fast.
Love to dine out, spend time with friends and family, walking, exploring new places.
Always liked the idea of ballroom dancing (especially Latin) – maybe one day!
