“It’s been the best move I ever made.” Sarah Boyes
You can find how it’s worked out for four of the team who have made the move.
I have moved to Exeter from Surrey. Originally, I wanted to live somewhere in the south of the UK, close to my family and friends. Exeter seemed like the perfect option as it has great commuter links with Surrey and London.
Yes definitely. I am really enjoying my time in Exeter and what the city has to offer. Exeter has all the conveniences of a large city but on the other hand is much calmer than London, for example. The commute is really good, if you fancy to cycle there are bike lanes everywhere. My commute to work does not take me more than 15 minutes, which is just fantastic.
I enjoy the fact that Exeter is so close to the seafront and national parks. It takes only 10 minutes by car to get to Exmouth and enjoy the sun-rays on the beach. Similarly, if I fancy to go out for a hike, Haldon forest is only 20 minutes away and is abundant in nature trails.
At PKF Francis Clark I work as part of the stamp duty land tax team. I am responsible for analysing the tax implications stemming from the purchase of real estates. I mainly deal with private clients that seek to purchase new properties. What makes my work interesting is the fact that tax law/policies are very dynamic. Thus, there is a need for you to constantly stay up-to-date by doing research and be aware of recently decided court cases. This is sometimes challenging but overall makes the work not stagnant and allows you to learn something new every day.
My time at PKF Francis Clark so far has been very positive. Everyone is very welcoming and are always happy to answer my questions and to introduce me to the relevant people. The working environment is a mix of open plan and breakout areas, there is plenty of space to think and breakout areas if needed.
I would say to people that are thinking about relocating to the South West should not overthink it and just do it. Before I moved to Exeter, I had my doubts about it due to the fact of never being to the South West before. Nevertheless, now I realise how unnecessary that was because Devon and Cornwall are truly beautiful parts of Britain. You will certainly enjoy your time here.
Adventurous, convenient, diverse.
